West To Mars

What has happened to our space program? The Shuttles only have a few more flights, and their replacement is not being given much publicity. Whatever happened to the enthusiasm that was rampant when we were going to the moon, and then beyond? Today's Warped site catches some of that excitement, and presents it with such vigor that you want to sign right up.

The name of the site is West To Mars Journey Through the Possibilities. This site explores the possibility of what Mars is, what it has meant to the civilizations in the past, and what we need to do journey there. The best part of the whole site is the authors monogram on why he feels the space program has failed. He blames it on the retirement of Walter Cronkite. Think about it, during the entire space race from the first sub-orbital flights to Neil Armstrong and the Apollo 13 crisis, we always had Walter to reassure and educate us. What we need to get the right stuff back is to have a Cronkite-type of person who can be trusted and believed, someone who says something, we will believe.

The artwork and photos here are great, utilizing the latest QuickTime VR technology. It really makes one want to explore, to boldly go where no man has gone before. The Warp-o-Meter gives this site an 8.0 rating, one that is truly out of this world.
