December 20, 2006The Transhuman Web AllianceThe Internet has long been a strange and wonderful place to explore and hang out in. From the old DOS and printed screen days right up the latest Flash and Java enables websites, it is truly a unique invention, concept, and happening. But you know what? It is suffering growing pains. It is becoming a jungle, filled with information, misinformation and plain garbage. It is growing in all directions, like a cambrian explosion of species. Hence, the existence of today's Warped site. The site is called The Transhuman Web Alliance. It has as its goal to create a unified sub-web making it easier for people to find information, to navigate through it and for the maintainers to stay up-to-date and high-quality. The general idea is simple: Moderators create and maintain pages on specific subjects, helped by contributors who provide texts, graphics, finding links, site maintenance, extra disk space, mirror sites and other help. It is also a philosophy that humanity can, and should, strive to higher levels, both physically, mentally and socially. It encourages research into such areas as life extension, cryonics, nanotechnology, physical and mental enhancements, uploading human consciousness into computers and megascale engineering. This is kind of heady stuff, something that the geeks among us will drink up. For the rest, it is like reading Plato or Socrates for the first time. It only starts to make sense after the first 10 or 20 readings. The Warped rating on this site is 9.0. http://www.aleph.se/Trans/Alliance/ Posted by rich at December 20, 2006 12:29 AM |
