June 19, 2006The KnotPlot SiteEvery Boy Scout knows how to tie knots, it is a basic part of scouting. Every sailor knows how to tie a knot, it's part of being a sailor. But what about the rest of us who may need to attach two pieces of rope or string, but don't know how. Well, just like Mighty Mouse, today's Warped site is here to save the day. The site is called The KnotPlot Site. Here you will find a collection of knots and links, viewed from a (mostly) mathematical perspective. KnotPlot itself is a program that allows you to create knots that and display them. This is a fairly elaborate program to visualize and manipulate mathematical knots in three and four dimensions. There is an order and sequence to these knots, one that seems almost calming as you try to design them. I picture this as a sort of cyber knitting program, you know the old knit one, purl two thing. Only here it is knot one, knot two. The results are quite interesting and artistic. No matter what you think of the program or the pictures, I am sure it will leave you tied up in knots. It did the Warp-o-Meter, which gave this site a 6.0 rating.
