Even good officers have bad days. But should you or someone you know suffer just because the police are having an off day. It is best to be aware of your rights before you encounter a bad cop, because it may save you from a lot of trouble in the future. Today's site has some good information on what you should and shouldn't do. The name of the site is PoliceAbuse.org. This is a site that helps citizens to report misconduct by their local police agencies. They are not on a witch hunt for bad cops, but believe that accountability is critical to the public service mission of police organizations. At this site you will see examples, both audio and video, of how things can go wrong. Take for example one officer's refusal to let a citizen talk to an attorney before questioning netted the citizen a 3 month jail term. It is best to offer full cooperation to the police when you are asked, but there are times when you want protect yourself first.
