June 29, 2006MovieProp.comI went to see "The Da Vinci Code" this past weekend, and was impressed by it. Great film, follows the book fairly closely. But what was interesting was the device that was used in the movie to hide some of the code. It was called the cryptex. I got to thinking, that would be a pretty cool conversation piece to have sitting around the house. I had no idea where to go to find one, and still don't. But in my searching, I came across today's Warped site. The site is called MovieProps.com and is a clearing house for information on how to find movie props (what else?). This site began like most things do as a simple hobby. In the beginning it was just a list of sites and contact info saved as a txt file for the author's own reference. But is soon became too big, so he took the next step, which was to organize it into a site that would help him organize his own materials. He started getting requests, mostly sci-fi in nature, and it just grew from there. Today the site covers a wide range of topics including: 1. Production used Hollywood memorabilia collecting 2. Production resources for video and movie productions 3. TV series and Movie Pages 4. All areas of the production, memorabilia and story from the V TV Series 5. Indexing of useful sites of the web (in essence an expansion of the old sites link section). This site provides some interesting information not only for collectors, but for movie fans as well. Knowing how props are made and use, this sort of behind-the-scenes look at Hollywood can be quite fun. The Warp-o-Meter rating for this site is a solid 7.5. Posted by rich at June 29, 2006 12:34 AM |
