Mathematical LEGO Sculptures

Everybody knows what they are. Everyone has played with them at one time or another (either as a parent or a kid). But today's Warped site takes a look at another use for this everyday childhood toy.

Legos. Everyone has played with them to build spaceships and pirate ships and army forts. But today's website is on that mixes pure mathematics and LEGOs to build some cool looking sculptures.

According to the webmaster, there is a large and active LEGO community on the Internet. He goes on to give some examples (with links to the sites) of what has been done. But rather than competing with those works of art, he made the choice to build a Mobius band. At first by eye, then by writing a computer program to aid in the design and construction of the models, he has achieved some very interesting results. Several are displayed here, along with the technical side of the programs he has written and used. As someone who flunked high school geometry, I won't try and explain it. But the results are impressive.

The Warp-o-Meter gives this site a 7.5, for both originality in concept, and the results that it shows. Some would say that this guy has too much time on his hands. I would say he has used the time he has to create some cool looking art.
