Fatal1ty

Over the holidays, I had the unpleasant experience of having to repair our main family computer. It was tough troubleshooting it, but finally came down to replacing the motherboard. So I took the opportunity to upgrade to one that I was already running, so now both of our home computers have the same one. I was thinking about that tonight as I was looking for a Warped site. Then it struck me. The motherboard. Well, not just the board, but the type of board, and the whole concept of it. If you want to see what I'm talking about, click on.

The motherboard I use (and highly recommend) is one by aBit computers in Taiwan. But what makes it so unique is that it is a collaboration between them and one of the most impressive game players in the world. His name is Jonathan Wendel, but you most likely know him by his gamer name of Fatal1ty.

He started professional gaming in 1999 by entering the CPL (Cyberathlete Professional League) tournament in Dallas and won $4,000 for placing third. Emerging as one of the top players in the United States, he then flew to Sweden where he competed in a tournament against the top 12 players in the world. By winning 18 straight games and losing none he took first place, becoming the number one ranked Quake III player in the world. Two months later he followed that success in Dallas by successfully defending his title as the world's best Quake III player and winning the $40,000 grand prize.

Since then (when he is not winning tournaments and promoting eSports) he has worked with several companies designing products that enhance his game playing ability. I use them, and find that the design changes that are implemented are well thought out and do make a difference. He has worked with aBit for motherboards, Creative Labs for sound cards, and Zalman for cooling fans. Here at this site you can see what it is like to be a professional gamer. It's not all play as you will find out. The Warp-o-Meter gives this site an 8.5. I think it is one that many hard-core gamers already know about, but will be eye-opening to other cyber surfers.
