Army Research Laboratory

In case you haven't noticed, there are several spots of unrest in the world where American troops are going in harm's way. These brave soldiers and sailors deserve our respect and support, for without them we would possibly not be the land of the free and the home of the brave. But have you ever wondered how they conduct their business. In other words, how do they do that voodoo that they do so well? Today's site may shed a little light on that subject.

The site is the Army Research Laboratory, part of the U.S. Army Research, Development & Engineering Command. The Army Research Laboratory (ARL) is the Army’s corporate basic and applied research laboratory. Their mission is to provide the science, technology, and analysis necessary to enable a wide ranging series of operations. ARL consists of the Army Research Office (ARO) and six Directorates-- Weapons and Materials, Sensors and Electron Devices, Human Research and Engineering, Computational and Information Sciences, Vehicle Technology, and Survivability and Lethality Analysis.

At this site you can view what activities are being conducted, as well as the history of what has been accomplished. One interesting article was a 50 years of Army Computing, which starts with the ENIAC and comes forward current day technology. You won't find any classified material here, but what is here makes for interesting viewing and reading. The Warp-o-Meter gives the site a rating of 7.0 on the open-ended Warp scale.
