Seize the Time

Today's Warped site visits someone who has had a major impact on the airwaves we use to listen to the radio. Not satisfied with hitting the airwaves, he has now hit the space waves. Radio will never be the same after January 9, 2006, as you will see when you visit this very warped site.

The site is called Seize the Time, and is the home page for one Howard Stern. For over 25 years, Howard has been one of the most controversial figures on radio. He not only defined the envelope for what should be on the airwaves, he sold them the paper it was made of. His clashes with the FCC are legendary, and thanks to that agency, he has left terrestrial radio, and is now broadcasting on the Sirius Satellite Radio Network. As a Sirius subscriber, I can say that the lack of FCC interference has made his show more entertaining and enjoyable.

Here at his website you can follow his on the air activities, as well as those of his well-known staff, and the other shows on his two Sirius channels. That's right, he has two Sirius channels to himself, and the programming reflects that. It is still in it's embryonic stages, but it is constantly evolving on a daily basis. For instance, he has just added ex-Partridge Family bad boy Danny Bonaduce for a week as host of his own show. Not to mention Bubba the Love Sponges show in the afternoon.

This is a totally warped site, one for Stern fans and non-Stern fans alike. Love him or hate him, you have to admit that he has class, style, and does things on his terms. I only wonder if satellite radio is big enough for him?

Weird N.J.

A few weeks ago we visited a weird and warped site for the city of Cincinnati. Nothing against that town, I have been there and enjoyed my visit. But it went to show that no matter where you are you can find an interesting sub culture of events, publications, and happenings that run counter to mainstream life. Today the Warped site visits another geographical location, one on the east coast of the United States.

The site is called Weird N.J. and it represents the best of the state of New Jersey. For those of you who are wondering just what Weird N.J. is all about, read on. Weird NJ is a travel guide and magazine to places you won't find on state funded maps or located on any tourist attraction pamphlets. This site travels to places that are seen for what they are; weird, odd or unique, all told by New Jerseyans to Mark Sceurman and Mark Moran, publishers of Weird N.J., while traveling the backroads of the Garden State in search of local unwritten history and modern folklore.

What are some of the things they have found? There are weird animals (chicke with a human face), local heroes and villains (Charles Lindbergh, Jr.), cemetery safari (Bud's Grave), and ghosts (most haunted house, college ghosts, and the lady in white). There are also links to other weird sites as well, such as ones for Ohio and New York, video clips of sites, and much, much more.

The Warp-o-Meter gives this site an 8.0 for it's theme, and this coming Halloween, it should go even higher. Spooks beware, enter at your own risk!

Fatal1ty

Over the holidays, I had the unpleasant experience of having to repair our main family computer. It was tough troubleshooting it, but finally came down to replacing the motherboard. So I took the opportunity to upgrade to one that I was already running, so now both of our home computers have the same one. I was thinking about that tonight as I was looking for a Warped site. Then it struck me. The motherboard. Well, not just the board, but the type of board, and the whole concept of it. If you want to see what I'm talking about, click on.

The motherboard I use (and highly recommend) is one by aBit computers in Taiwan. But what makes it so unique is that it is a collaboration between them and one of the most impressive game players in the world. His name is Jonathan Wendel, but you most likely know him by his gamer name of Fatal1ty.

He started professional gaming in 1999 by entering the CPL (Cyberathlete Professional League) tournament in Dallas and won $4,000 for placing third. Emerging as one of the top players in the United States, he then flew to Sweden where he competed in a tournament against the top 12 players in the world. By winning 18 straight games and losing none he took first place, becoming the number one ranked Quake III player in the world. Two months later he followed that success in Dallas by successfully defending his title as the world's best Quake III player and winning the $40,000 grand prize.

Since then (when he is not winning tournaments and promoting eSports) he has worked with several companies designing products that enhance his game playing ability. I use them, and find that the design changes that are implemented are well thought out and do make a difference. He has worked with aBit for motherboards, Creative Labs for sound cards, and Zalman for cooling fans. Here at this site you can see what it is like to be a professional gamer. It's not all play as you will find out. The Warp-o-Meter gives this site an 8.5. I think it is one that many hard-core gamers already know about, but will be eye-opening to other cyber surfers.

Favorite Music Sites

Music makes the world go round. It don't mean a thing if it ain't got that swing. How much is that doggie in the window. Who put the bomp in the bomp-sho-bomp-bomp, who put the ram in the rama-lama-ding-dong. Good Golly, Miss Molly what is all this music about? Well, if you wonder over to the Warped site today, you will see just how wide ranging the Internet has become, musically speaking.

The site is called My Favorite Music Sites. It is one Internet user's links to sites that highlight his musical interests. There is as wide a variety of sites here than I have seen anywhere. All music forms are listed, from rock to blues to country to jazz and gospel. But it doesn't just stop at music. It goes on to newsgroups, record collecting, discographies, artists, musicians, record companies and publishing. Among the eclectic sites are Blue Slim, a Japanese blues site; the Rockabilly Hall of Fame, and four links to girl groups. The record companies are rather unique themselves, but well researched.

Music does indeed make the world go round, and in this case, it makes the Warp-o-Meter move as well. In this case it stops at a 7.0. In the immortal world of Lawrence Welk, it 'wunnerful, wunnerful'.

Tube Spot

Watching television tonight, I saw a commercial that has been playing for months, yet is still hilarious to watch. I don't want to plug the company, but the next time you're in a restaurant and hear someone order the roast duck with the mango salsa, you'll know who I mean. So I got to thinking about other ads I have seen that have been just as hilarious. Results of my thinking: today's Warped site.

The name of the site is Tube Spot. It is a site for the funniest commercials to be on television. In addition to the Geico Cavemen, there are hilarious ads for Budweiser, Jack-in-the-Box, AFLAC, Capitol One, Pepsi and Coca Cola, among others. There are many different variety of ads to choose from, but all are guaranteed to give a laugh. You can also check out commercials from the past Super Bowl, which is where many companies spend big bucks to have their products seen.

It says something about our society when we find commercials more entertaining than some of the programs we are watching. But as long as they keep selling insurance, hamburgers, and credit cards, then we'll have those ads. The Warp-o-Meter gives this site an 8.5 because I laughed my you-know-what off while I was there. I hope you will as well.

Bay City Bombers

Over the past couple of weeks, there have been a new television program called Texas Rollergirls. For many of us old time Warped readers, roller derby was a mainstay during the 1960's and 1970's, and ranked right up there with pro wrestling (or wrasslin', depending where you are) as an entertainment form. So a quick Google search brought up some very interesting results. Take a look at today's site, and you will see what we mean.

The site is called Bay City Bombers, and in their time, they were the Hulk Hogan of Roller Derby. Who could forget that combination of Charlie O'Connell and the Blonde Bomber, Joanie Weston. There was action all over the banked track, at speeds that would chill most of us to even attempt. There is a complete history of the Bombers here, as well as the sport itself, since the Bombers were the sport at one time. It takes a some time to understand the sport, but basically it is a race around a track by two teams, and points are scored when the jammer(s) lap the teams. It can get quite interesting, and the current edition of the team continues that tradition.

You don't have to warped to like roller derby. But being a half bubble of plum can help, at least in my wife's opinion. The Warp-o-Meter gives this site a 7, for old times sake, as well as new times.

The Launch Pad

The subject matter of this site has usually been aimed at a mature adult audience. So today, for a change of pace, I thought we would try and find a warped and weird site for the younger members of our audience. For the smaller ones, those terms will have a different meaning. I think today's site is one that will fit in with their concept of that type of site.

The site is called The Launch Pad. It is a link to children's program sites. What caught my eye in looking at it was the link to the DAFT Hatchlings. This is the home page for the Disney Afternoon File Time mailing list. My children were daffy about the Disney Afternoon shows, such as Tale Spin, DuckTales, Goof Troop, Bonkers, and Chip 'n Dale Rescue Rangers, among others. The Center for Volatile Creative Types has some great Disney material as well.

The Space Ghost pages are very creative, as are the Reboot Sites. There are some other interesting site that are out of the ordinary, and are intended for kids. You would feel safe in letting your younger ones surf these sites, but it could be more fun doing it together. The Warp-o-Meter gives this site a 7.5 with the scale adjusted for younger audiences.

Got Boredom

Are you bored and looking for something to do? Want to kill the last few minutes before work ends or school's out for the day? If you want to waste some time while surfing the net, then head on over to today's Warped site.

The site is called Got Boredom. Here are some of the best sites to kill time with while doing absolutely nothing at all. Some of the interesting items here are the Random Insult generator, eCardTricks, and eyetricks optical illusions. Want more? There is Headline Humor, Flush the Web, Amazing Camera, and iGossip. There are different subject areas for movies, trivia, Real Dumb stuff, and even a place on where to get free stuff and make some money.

So if you want to kill sometime at work, and look busy while you are doing it, then this Warped site is one for you. The Warp-o-Meter gives this site a 7.5. Do you agree with it? Do you disagree with it?

TechTales

You've heard the saying that you don't have to be crazy to work here, but it helps. Well, today's Warped website is one that shows just how sane people can go crazy if they work where these folks do. It is something that at one time or another we have all experienced.

The site is called TechTales. Here you will find the funniest tech support stories to come from the Internet. The folks telling these stories are the ones that are in the trenches. These are the people that you talk to when you call to find out why your computer or iPod or printer or PDA does not work the way you think it should. Manual? We don't need no stinkin' manual? They have heard it all, and share it with you. Among their stories:

1) How NOT to scan a photo,

2) the Son of God???

3) Buy a computer that works,

4) SHIFTless users.

There are some great stories here, all allegedly true. The Warp-o-Meter gives this site a 7.5. The sheer volume of ignorance here by users is incredible. My guess is that we have several future candidates for the Darwin Awards on this site. Can you find them?

Weird Websites, part deux

We're going international tonight for our Warped site. This is just a coincident but it has the same name as our last site. But at that point all similarity ends... sorta. You have to see for yourself what the differences are, but keep in mind that this site will have a bit of brogue to it.

The name of the site is Weird Websites. It is located somewhere in the United Kingdom, most likely in Scotland (look at the URL). The have some very interesting sites that they feature, with a new one coming every day. The focus seems to be on humor. The notMENSA-IQ Test is a good example. But there are some very interesting sites as well. Take the Evolution of Man for example. We really haven't come that far. Nostalgia folks will like the Pet Rock site. For the technically minded, the Drive Me site lets you actually drive a toy webtruck via the Internet and remote control. Totally cool.

There are many eclectic sites that are featured here. Each site opens up on the actual page itself, not just a review of the page. The Warp-o-Matic gives this site an 8.0 for the variety of sites that are featured here. Excuse me, but I just found the Punch and Judy site, and I'm gonna punch a politician.

Weird Links

Okay, it has been awhile since we looked as something that was really weird. But today we have out done ourselves. Not just one site, but a collection of them. Everything is represented here, at least we think it is. So sit, strap in, and hang on.

The site today (or tonight, depending on where and when you are) is called Weird Links. This site is a collection of links to some pretty strange stuff on the Internet. There are links to Weird Pies, Weird Websites, Weird Quotes, Weird Jokes, Weird eBay, and even Weird Al. There are humor links, weird events and happenings, some really off-beat links ( such as online traffic school, wedding and after dinner speeches, and some great stress relief methods.

The Warp-o-Meter gives this site a 7.0, since humor is so good. There are lots of sites to explore and visit here, and if the ones we looked are any indication, they will be side-splitting, gut-busting funny. In the words of this webmaster, this site is best place on the internet for weird web sites, bizarre humor, strange pictures, riddles, silly ebay auctions, jokes, anime, digital art, poetry, weird quotations, weird translations, ugly people photos, strange pet pics, weird photographs and so much more .

Dancing Paul

Today's site is one that is just plain fun. I have to admit that it took a few minutes to figure out what exactly was going on. But once I figured it out, it was totally fun. You will have to admit, after a few minutes here, that the designer is one totally warped dude.

The site is called Dancing Paul. Who is Paul, you are most likely asking? Well, he isn't Paul McCartney, but he can help you start your own band, by using RockStarter. He can also help to make you a dancing queen, by helping Charles, William and Elizabeth boogie down. There are a couple of other dancing links that give you a chance to play. Be sure to check out the links to Paul's other sites. I especially like the Buy-me-a-beer.com link.

This site has some interesting areas. The Warp-o-Meter gives it a 7.5, mostly for the link I mentioned above. It has a lot of promise to it, promise that needs to be developed and expanded on. But what is here is totally cool, and, well, warped.

Find A Grave

Today's Warped site is one that may seem a little creepy, or better discussed during Halloween. But it has information that appeals to both the macabre interests in us, and to our sense of history. There is even some research that this site can be used for. So if you are interested, follow me..... if you dare!

The site is called Find A Grave. This site is a genealogist's dream site, but the main claim to fame that is has is that here you can find where just about anyone who was anyone is buried. Or more correctly, where their final resting place is. Here you can view gravesites of movie stars, famous politicians, the rich and famous (and the not so rich and famous as well). You can search by name, location, claim to fame, or by a specific date. There is also a search engine for locating graves of others, such as relatives. There are over 9.5 million records accessible on the site, as well as discussion forums on a variety of subjects.

At first this might seem a very strange site. But many will use if for family histories, or for school research ( there am many short biographies of the individuals listed here, as well as photographs). Some will look simply for the sake of looking. The Warp-o-Meter gives the site a 7 rating. So in the words of Digger O'Dell, we'll be shoveling off now to do some looking of our own.

Ninja Burger

I was kind of hungry tonight when I was searching for a site, so this might be the reason for the subject I selected. Owning your own business is somewhat of an American dream. There are many different types of businesses that can be owned by one or two people. But it is a dog eat dog capitalist world out there, and in order to succeed, one must have a hook to make theirs stand out. Today's site has a hook that is quite unique.

The name of the site is Ninja Burger. Ninja Burger was founded in 1954, and soon became the world's predominant underground ninja-run fast food delivery service. We would be happy to tell you more about the company, but since we're ninja, we would then have to kill you. The Ninja Burger Web site was developed in 1999 by the honorable Kenshiro Aette-san and Miyoko Aenomi-san in the traditions of their honorable ancestors. Their solemn mission: to defend the downtrodden, fight for the honor of Ninja Burger, and to deliver hot and fresh food to Ninja Burger's customers. Somewhere along the line it all went horribly wrong.

Ninja Burger is devoted to customer service, quality food and quick delivery. We hope you will enjoy ordering from us. Because if you are not happy then we will have to discuss with you why you are not happy. And then you will probably not be happy either. If you catch our drift. We wish all the time to be able to provide you hot fresh delivery and to propose to you a joy of eating burger life. Let's enjoy the burger with a smooth fries of our ancestors. You will be sure you will be satisfied. Ninja Burger bring happy life, healthy life. Guaranteed, or we commit seppuku. As masters of the ancient art of Fast Food Delivery, we guarantee that all our customers are happy. In fact, there is no such thing as an unhappy customer. We mean that. If you are unhappy, we will be happy to send a ninja deliveryperson to speak with you about what is making you unhappy. And then you will be happy. Or else you will not be. Alive, that is.

After you spend sometime on this site, you will realize, as I did, that it is all tongue-in-cheek. It is very funny, and quite original in concept. For that alone, the Warp-o-Meter gives this site an 8.5 rating.

The FBI Files

Today's Warped site is brought to you courtesy of the History Channel. No, they aren't sponsoring it nor did they ask us to feature it. But I was contemplating what site to feature tonight, and the TV was on. There was a program on the History Channel called "Declassified", and it was about the FBI investigations of John Lennon and Yoko Ono during the 1970's. Well, one Google search later, and the site was found.

The site is called The FBI Files. Here you can browse official FBI files on all sorts of weird and unusual stuff (at least to us, it might seem that way). But these are the types of investigations that were undertaken when J. Edgar Hoover ran the bureau. There are files on (besides John Lennon) Mickey Mantle, Frank Sinatra, John Wayne, and Albert Einstein. Read about the Watergate, the Hindenberg disaster, and Jonestown. Are spy stories you cup of tea? Then read about Anthony Blunt and the Profumo Matter. There usual UFO, Aliens, and Extraterrestrial files are here as well.

This site is enough to make anyone paranoid. These documents were obtained under the Freedom of Information Act, which shows that it is possible to find out what goes on behind closed doors in Washington. Now if we could only find the files on J. Edgar, and who his dress maker was. The Warp-o-Meter gives this site an 8.5, but that may change if thinks it is being wire-tapped.

The Toaster Museum Foundation

Several weeks ago we visited a site that showed how some people felt about their lawn mowers, to the point of taking pictures and sharing them digitally over the Internet. I wondered what other common ordinary everyday items could achieve just as much, if not more, popularity that the tried and true lawn mower. Today's site is part of the results of that search.

The site is called The Toaster Museum Foundation. As it's name implies, it is about the common taken-for-granted appliance that seems to be in just about every household. They come in all shapes and sizes, and have evolved technologically over the years (although I have yet to see a Windows-based one, I am sure the geeks in Redmond have one in the works). Here you can explore to your hearts content to find the one that is perfect for you. Sort of a treasure hunt for the holy grail of Westinghouse.

There are quite a few interesting areas at this site. Vintage ads showing older toasters, art work, articles, and a special interactive page, with a game and greeting card. I especially like the toys and accessories, and the miscellany section, where I was reminded of one of my children's favorite video series, the Brave Little Toaster. The Warp-o-Meter gives this site a 6.5 rating, since everyone needs a toaster, but it appears that some people need them more than others.

AllFantasyArt

Computers have extended what society can do, from a creative point of view. Authors no longer use typewriters, they have word processors. No more draft boards, everyone uses CAD programs. Artists still use canvas, but to achieve a great depth and visualization, many have turned to computers. This has lead to some very interesting results to say the least. One example is the featured Warped site today.

Called AllFantasyArt, this site features beautiful fantasy art 3d pictures for your enjoyment. Created by fantasy artist Alexandro Lima, exclusively for this website, these fantasy pictures will mesmerize your mind and take you to a peaceful fantasy dreamland. There are many different subjects, such as angels, fairies, dragons, vampires, and unicorns, among others. There are some interesting photo manipulation pictures, as well as some fantasy backgrounds and clipart.

It is interesting to see the results of these computer generated and manipulated images. The Warp-o-Meter gives this site a 5.5. It shows a lot of promise, and should only get better as more and more images are added.

Sports Cars - Fast Cars - Exotic Cars

Usually Warped sites that we have looked at reflect the Internet, and just how wild and crazy of a place it has become. It seems just about any subject will have a web page or two or three dedicated to it. Sometimes these sites are totally cyber based, and sometimes they reflect what happens off the Internet. Today's site is one of the latter.

The site is named Sports Cars - Fast Cars - Exotic Cars. It is dedicated to those cars that are, well, sporty, fast and exotic. There are pictures of cars, wallpapers of cars, and articles about cars. They are categorized to make searching them easier. I really enjoyed the Most Expensive Cars section (we can all dream, can't we?). There is also a section of funny car pictures, some of them more appropriate for adults than kids. On a more serious note, there are some accident pictures, giving the messages that cars can be fun but deadly, too. The Tips and Advice section can help you save money when you buy a car, get one repaired, and drive in a more economic manner.

This site lets people show off their cars, but it has some useful information as well. The Warp-o-Meter gives this site a 5.0. It is one site that Warpedness is informative as well as fun to look at.

ghostsites

How old is old? I mean really, is thirty too old or too young. Fifty is a milestone that we all either look forward to, or run away from. In terms of the Internet, old can be measured in terms of less that 20 years. That is why today's Warped site is one that is kind of cool, since it talks about old internet sites. Kinda cool, from a geekish historical point of view.

The site is called ghostsites. It is an article by Steve Baldwin on how he went looking for the oldest active webpage. He has found a few interesting ones, but he missed one of the best - THIS ONE!!! Actually, it is the parent of this one, the one created by the Mayor Joel Comm. I am referring to World Village, a site that was created in 1995. But since we aren't on the list, check out the ones that are. There are several of them, with small reviews of those sites. I especially like Vigilante Electronics. According to Steve, "the layout hasn't changed a bit since 1997. Hey, if it works, don't fix it!"

Steve has some other interesting articles as well, be sure to check out his home page and drop him an email if you like his work. The host site for this is very interesting as well, and most likely will grace this site in the not too distance future. The Warp-o-Meter gives this site an 8.0. I am always a sucker for good history, and this one rates right up there.

The Deeply Weird Ring

What attracted me to the Warped site today, besides the intriguing title, was the dedication. It states that it is dedicated to the discovery and sharing of information regarding strange and unusual phenomenon. NOW if that doesn't grab your attention, nothing will. I mean "Deeply" Weird, not just Weird, or a little Weird, but DEEPLY Weird. If you are as intrigued as I was, then click on.

The Deeply Weird Ring is a collection of sites that relate to the anything that is a little off base, or just a tad unusual, when compared to the normal everyday world. Sort of like a 64 bit computer running on 63 bits, or a level that is a half bubble off level. There is a wide variety of material here, something for just about anyone and everyone. Ghost Hounds - Paranormal Investigators Network sound like a couple of popular movies from the last century. "Who ya gonna call.....?" But instead of Dan and Bill and Ernie, you get the real deal. There is a cool site on the 200mpg carburetor, that was invented in 1936, and one of the best kept secrets in Detroit. A personal favorite was the Alien Healing Session site, which sounded a little bit like the movie "Independence Day", but without Will Smith there.

These sites show where some of the weird people have been hanging out lately, some quite literally. The Warp-o-Meter gives this site a 9.0. It would have been a 10 if there were a few more sites to explore. But the ones here are enough to give you the willies and keep looking over your shoulder when you are looking at them. You never know who is staring over your shoulder.

Grateful Dead

One of the most warped bands (I mean that in a positive sense) that I have ever had the pleasure of listening to has not been live on stage for over 10 years. The people who follow them do not just listen to the music, they embrace the lifestyle that it inspires. So if you're ready to truck on up to Buffalo, then today's site is where you need to be.

The name of the site is simply Grateful Dead. It is a fansite for one of the most enduing rock-n-roll bands of all time, the Grateful Dead. From their folk and bluegrass roots in the early 60's, to blues and acid rock of the lates 60's and early 70's, the wall of sound, and the super concerts of the 80's and 90's, it is all here. There is a discography, biographies, links to other sites, and information that is helpful to those who are just discovering the Dead, or are looking up some obscure fact or lyric.

What sets this band apart was the relationship they had and have with their fans. What major rock band allowed people to not only tape their shows, but trade them with others? With certain restrictions, that practice continues today. The concerts were events to be enjoyed, as no two were ever the same (even if they played the same songs, which almost never happened). To sum it up, it is all about the music.

The Warp-o-Meter gives this Dead Head site a 7.5 for it's ongoing dedication to the band, and the support it gives to the faithful fans.

YouThink

I remember a Peanuts greeting card that had Charlie Brown, Linus, and Snoopy on it. The caption on the first page was "Decartes said "To be is to do". The next caption said "Socrates said "To do is to be". The inside caption, with Snoopy as Joe Cool said "Sinatra says dooby-dooby-doo". That popped into my mind when I came across a very interesting site, one that is somewhat warped, but still an most interesting visit.

The site is called YouThink. That is You think, not Youth ink. Okay. This site revolves around meeting people, and interacting with them, in a cyber sort of way. There are interesting and thought provoking questions (the current one is "Are you scared of clowns?"). There is a Joke of the Moment, where you can vote on whether it is funny or not. (These are submitted by members, by the way). There are quizzes you can take, jokes, movies, trivia, and forums. The quizzes are thought provoking, such as "If you were an asteroid, what country would you hit?". The jokes run all the way from hilarious to groaners. Again, members can add to the categories, and comment on ones that have already posted.

This is an interesting site, in that it relies mostly on user input. There are over 300,000 members (they claim), with over 1000 key members, and (when I was visiting it) had almost 100 online at once. There seems to be a wide variety of subject matter that would appeal to all of these visitors, so there must be something to the site. The Warp-o-Meter gives this site an 8.0. As with any site that asks for relationship information, or encourages online relationships, be wary of any information that you give out, or any in-person contacts that you make.

Stick Death

Growing up, we all played hangman. You know, the game that used paper to guess words by filling in letters. When you missed one, an arm or leg was added to your man, and when the head was added, you lost because he was hung. Some of the first drawings we made were with stick figures. Thanks to the Internet and computers, some of the first computer games were stick men. Today, again thanks to the computer, the stickmen have made a come back. Click on to see today's Warped site.

The name of the site is Stick Death. Here you can see how mr. stickman has matured over the years. Just as we are no longer using typewriters and watching black and white television, he has added some technology. He has a car, a gym, and other sources of amusement. This site features some interesting satire and original entertainment that is not as bad as the title suggests. However there are some Itchy and Scratchy moments on the site, so viewing by younger children is not recommended. The site is well designed, with a variety of links to other sites that have some reference to this site. Be sure to check out the connection that the stickman has to Monster Garage.

The Warp-o-Meter gives this site a 9.5. It is truly warped in the real sense of the word. Spend some time here and you'll see what I mean.

Crunt

We Americans have an attitude that makes us think that we are the first and best in everything. At least most of us do. Okay, well, some of us do. As far as the internet is concerned, that isn't always the truth. Today's Warped site takes us across the big pond to our friends in the British Isles for a most entertaining site.

The site is called Crunt.co.uk. What first attracted me to the site is the disclaimer that shows on their first page. It reads "Crunt.co.uk is a satirical news website and therefore all articles are not to be taken seriously. If any article contains a shred of truth, it's a coincidence". That takes the fun out of it, somewhat. But then I ventured inside, and started reading the articles on the site. After you spend some time here, you will understand why the disclaimer is appropriate.

The spin that the authors put on the daily news is quite unique to say the least. For example, their lead story today is about the RIAA hoping to make amends to music fans by releasing an album. There are are wide variety of subjects covered on the site, such as politics (always a fertile field for satire) and show biz, but they don't feature sports or business news (unless they find something so outrageous they can't pass it up). But be aware the some of the news subjects may be foreign to you since this is another country here. But the variety of the articles is truly worth taking a look at. When it is all said and done, the Warp-o-Meter gives this site a 5.5, but that is on the metric scale.

leroy's auckshuns

eBay has redefined how we do business as a society. There are many companies that use eBay for 100% of their transactions, and many mainstream businesses are using it to compliment their storefronts. There are casual users who dabble in it, both buying and selling to not for a living, but to supplement their income or get rid of some of their junk, sort of an internet flea market. But then there are the small percentage of eBay users who just don't fit into a category. Today's Warped site looks at one of those individuals.

The name of the site is leroy's aukshuns. Here is an example of just how much fun one person can have when he learns how to use a computer and the internet. This blog-type site lets Leroy express who he is, what he believes, and just what he is selling on eBay. From what I gather, his offerings are unusual, and many times are cancelled for various reasons. Items such as LEROY'S ABU GHRAIB BETTY PLAYSET and LEROY'S SCIENTIFICAL GHOSTIFFERATOR are among the ones he has offered, and he describes them here in great detail. There are also some interesting pictures on the site, one that looks like one of Big Foot's off spring.

A most unusual site, I have to admit. But it is a fun one to visit, and to see if Leroy is really on the level, or is he just too cheap to buy a spell checker. Anyway, the Warp-o-Meter gives this site a 7.5 rating.

The Art of Prank Calls

There is a little bit of Beavis and Butthead in all of us. There is a little bit of Bart Simpson in all of us. There is even a little bit of Eddie Haskell in all of us. Heck, if the Internet had been around 50 years ago, Eddie might have been one of the prime users of today's Warped site. It is one that some unique features to it.

The name of the site is the Art of Prank Calls. How many of us have watched the Simpsons and listened to Bart call Moe's, ask for Seymour, Seymour Cheeks. Prank phone calls have been around since the telephone was invented. There is a rumor that the second phone call made was to Alexander Graham Bell, and it was heavy breathing. But today's site has elevated the study of this form of pranksterism to an art form.

The collection of sound bites here, along with the accompanying stories is a fun place to hang out. There is a group of Net. Pranksters who love to share their original calls, users with names such as Insane Jason, Vendetta Calls, Duece Brothers, and Big Dave. There is also a link to Prantagonize Magazine, the world's first and only magazine dedicated to prank calls. There is also a very important disclaimer that is on this site, one that is best shown here as well:

"The calls on this page are presented for entertainment purposes only. While laws regarding telephone calls vary from locale to locale, the calls presented here were recorded with the knowledge of the caller but not the recipient of the call, in accordance with the laws of the state in which they were recorded. "

The Warp-o-Meter gives this site an 8.5, one that puts it in the range of a truly Warped site, one that lives up to it's reputation.

Engrish

One of the most confusing languages in the world is the one that you are reading now. English, for all of the simplicity of it, has some many confusing rules and pronunciations that translating it to other languages often gives some funny results. To see some of those humorous translations, click away.

The name of the site is called Engrish. Before anyone starts complaining about political correctness and bias and all that, this site just shows how confusing the English language is to understand. It is not making fun of anyone or anything. For all intents and purposes, it shows some of the weaknesses of our native language.

Here you can see examples of foreign nations translate their languages into English so they might sell products to us. Also some examples of how English is used in other countries to attract tourist trade. Check out the clothing section for real winner: "I (heart)NY" with California written in small letters under it. Computer error messages are hilarious as well. The error message: "Do you feel ENJOY!!!! Sorry for Disturb". I wonder what program this runs in. These are just a couple of interesting messages for the many on this site.

Some of the messages are cute, some silly, some very hard to understand, even in English. But most will give you a chance to smile a little, and maybe have a good laugh. The Warp-o-Meter reading on this site is a 5.5.

Earth To Andy

The Warped Site needs your help today. We have found this site that is very interesting. The colors on the main page are, to say the least, eye-catching. But beyond that it is a total mystery as to what this site is all about. Read on and you will see what we mean.

The site is called Earth to Andy. The introduction page has some of the most bizare colors in use today. It is eye-catching to say the least. There is a link a store front page where you can by merchandise with a face on it (and it is NOT a happy face). You can buy house ware, underwear, hats, posters, magnets and more. But we are so confused. WHAT IS THE PURPOSE OF THIS SITE??? Is it so weird and warped that it has, like a Grateful Dead concert, achieved a plane of understanding that is totally it's own?

If you know what is going on here, please, please comment and let us know. In the meantime, we are setting the way back machine to see if we can return to where we were when we found this site. Heaven knows we need it.

Flush The Web

There was a country song written years ago called "Flushed You From the Bathroom of My Heart". Many a beer has been imbibed while listening to that song. It makes me wonder how many cheetos or jolt colas were taken while surfing today's Warped Site of the Day.

The name of the site is Flush The Web, and their motto is "Only The Worst Website". BOY, are they right in that statement! Some of the sites they have featured include BoredVille.net, eCardTricks, Bad Santa, Monkey Diving, Skeet Shot, the list goes on and on. Each site is given a short description, then a link to it is provided. There are all kinds of sites, up to and including some adult-oriented ones. But the variety is what one should find most interesting here. Another interesting feature is their listing of their top referer sites. Some of them sound pretty bad themselves (www.deaddog.com, for example).

The Warp-o-Meter gives this site an 8.5 for it's concept, and the braggadoico of going right to the worst of the web. Most sites try to be the best; this one highlights the worst. That deserves a hearty hand clasp, in my opinion.

Aliens-UFOs

Here it is the first day of 2006. What a better way to start off the new year than by visiting a site that reeks of warped and weird stuff. One that will give visitors a lot of room to discuss theories and conspiracies of all kinds. In short, it is the type of web site that was just made for us to feature.

The site is called Alien-UFOs. It is a site that looks at all of the information that is available about extraterrestrial visitors to our planet. There are sections for UFOs, Area 51, Crop Circles, the whole range of topics for conspiracy theorists to talk about. There is a wide range of forums, where you can find and discuss just about anything. And I do mean ANYTHING. Some of the discussion threads are tongue in cheek, and some are down right scary.

I found the Area 51 section to be a little disappointing, given what I have seen from other websites. But the information here is current, such as where to go to see what is happening inside the restricted area. There is also discussion about Area 52. If you want to know about that, you'll have to go yourself, I don't want to give away any surprises. There is also an extensive links section, where visitors can explore this material in more detail.

As long as there are stars in the sky, there will be sightings of UFOs, reports of Alien abductions, and those ever mysterious crop circles. This site compliments those areas quite well, enough for the Warp-o-Meter to give it a solid 8.0 rating.
